Terms and Conditions of Entry and Sale of Work for the - Australian Watercolour Muster Biennale - 2023

You Are Agreeing to these Terms and Conditions

There are Three (3) Possible Categories for Entry to the Australian Watercolour Muster - 2023 - your can choose which one you would like to enter. You are welcome to enter up to 3 pieces of Work in each Category as you would like!

  • Category 1 | 1/2 Sheet Watercolour on Watercolour Paper we recommend 300gsm or above = 56 x 38cm either landscape or portrait direction of your paper This Category will be judged by our panel of Judges and Finalists from this Category will be Showcased for 12 months on the Australian Watercolour Muster - Digital Gallery.

30 Best in Muster Entries will be selected from this Category 1 - will be Exhibited Live in The Old Cairns Court House - from 6th September to 28th October 2023 - thanks to Cairns Regional Council.

  • Category 2 | Free size - Watercolour on Paper we recommend 300gsm or above = up to 1metre either landscape or portrait direction of your paper - This Category will be judged by our panel of Judges and Finalists from this Category will be Showcased for 12 months on the Australian Watercolour Muster - Digital Gallery.

1 Best in Muster from this Category 2 - will be Exhibited Live in The Old Cairns Court House - from 6th September to 28th October 2023 - thanks to Cairns Regional Council.

  • Category 3 | Watercolour on an Experimental Substrate Canvas, Board or aluminium or other base within size allowed, and may be sculptural in effect e.g an Art book or paper sculpted into a form with artwork on the surfaces  = This may be up to 1 metre in size on all sides - landscape or portrait direction of your paper. This Category will be judged by our panel of Judges and Finalists from this Category will be Showcased for 12 months on the Australian Watercolour Muster - Digital Gallery.

1 Best in Muster from this Category 3 - will be Exhibited Live in The Old Cairns Court House - from 6th September to 28th October 2023 - thanks to Cairns Regional Council.

90% of the materials to be used are to be water based mediums from any brand:

  • Water based pigments
  • Water based inks
  • Water based markers
  • Water based pencils

10% of materials can be introduced mixed media - including fibre and introduced paper/s

By submitting your works you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions.

General Terms:

  1. Each art work must be the original un-copied work of the exhibitor.
  2. All exhibits must be the original work of the exhibitor who must be a resident of Australia
  3. We have a separate Invitation Process for International Artists wishing to be part of the Australian Watercolour Muster -  International Artists are invited to contact the Curator Wyn Vogel for further information
  4. No hand painted copies of paintings, imported or otherwise, will be accepted for exhibition.
  5. Works exhibited in previous Australian Watercolour Muster Exhibitions will not be accepted.
  6. Each art work will be for sale at the price nominated by the artist on the entry form. Artist’s must remember to include GST where applicable and freight costs appropriate to enable the Customer to calculate their freight costs on the G247 System as required.
  7. All entries must be made through the Gallery 247 on-line art and art show management system. 
  8. Types, numbers and sizes of art works must conform to the Acceptable Art Works section of this website.
  9. All entries will undergo a Pre-Selection Process. The Organisers reserve the right to not accept a work of art and to limit the number of exhibits.

Dates - The key date related conditions are as follows:

  1. Art works will only be considered if they are submitted by the Closing Date for Initial Submissions as detailed on the Key Dates section of this Website.
  2. Accepted art works will be displayed on the Australian Watercolour Muster - digital portal from the 1st August 2023 along with notification to the 32 Best in Muster - 2023 who will be selected and hung in the Cairns Court House Gallery between the 6th September and 28th October 2023.
  3. The Artists who are selected as one of the 32 Best in Muster 2023  - must ensure Delivery as detailed on the Key Dates section of this Website. No late works will be displayed or accepted for Exhibition.
  4. All art works Virtual and Physical, must remain on display for the full duration of the Australian Watercolour Muster designated dates for
    1. the Digital Exhibition - which continues to be showcased into 2024, and
    2. all Physical Exhibition - dates 6th September to 28th October 2023 at the Court House Gallery - Cairns Australia

Fees and commissions:

  1. An entry fee of $AUD45, as detailed in the Fees and Commissions section of the this Website, will be charged for each art work on submission and payable via the online entry system. Entry fees are not refundable.
  2. A commission of 25%, detailed in the Fees and Commissions section of this website, will be deducted from the catalogue price if the work is sold either off the Australian Watercolour Muster Digital Gallery or physically in Cairns during the Exhibition period of the 6th September 2023 to 28th October 2023.

Entry of Your Artwork/Upload of your images as part of the Entry Process:

  1. Please include in the file path / name of the image you submit and your artist name, the name of the image is important so we can track the image and trace it to you easily!
  2. You will be guided by the Entry details on the Gallery 247 Portal - as to how to load your artwork and images for the Submission process - if you have any difficulties with this process please contact Australian Watercolour Muster - 2023 - Curator Wyn Vogel and/or Gallery 247 for further advice

Showcasing the Finalist's Work - The Final 32 'Best in Muster' will need to be freighted to Curator - Wyn Vogel in Brisbane by the agreed date - please see Key DATES - UNFRAMED - flat packed .....

  1. All Artwork selected as 'Finalists' by the Judges for 2023 - will be showcased live on the Australian Watercolour Muster Digital Gallery - from the 1st August 2023 to the completion of the Australian Watercolour Muster Biennale - 2023 period (TBA).
  2. Up to 32 Artworks - the ‘Best in Muster 2023’ – from Artists across Australia will be selected for Exhibition in The Old Cairns Court House from the 6th September to 28rd October 2023.

A LIVE 'Spring Australian Watercolour Muster of Artists' with Workshops, Plein Air Painting and evenings to enjoy along the esplanade in Cairns - will be based in two locations this year 2023 - 

  • The Court House, and
  • The Tanks - Cairns Botanical Gardens

Delivery of Artwork to Brisbane ready to go to Cairns for Framing and Exhibition - If Selected as 1 of the 32 Best In Muster 2023

  1. Artwork will be required to be delivered to the Curator of the Australian Watercolour Muster in Brisbane by Express Mail - to the Address and Date - which will be notified with the Confirmation of Selection Letter - which will be provided to the 32 Artists judged as 'Best in Muster - 2021' within the KEY DATES notified on this Website.
  2. Artwork is to be delivered flat if possible and/or in a wide tube to enable the Artwork to not become twisted and hard to frame.
  3. Artwork will be framed by the Australian Watercolour Muster and Cairns Regional Council into frames and hung for the duration of the Exhibition in The Old Court House Gallery - within the KEY DATES notified on this Website.

Return of Art Work to the Artists

  1. Return of Physical art works from Exhibition in Cairns must be by the artist or an authorised agent, and/or
  2. Via Australia Post at agreed with the Australian Watercolour Muster Curator - appropriate freight costs depending on the Artists location (at the time they Artist is notified of acceptance for Exhibition in Cairns) - being paid to the Australian Watercolour Muster management team, as agreed.
  3. Designated Collection/Return to Artists times as detailed in the Key Dates section of this Website.

Other Conditions

  1. Other Finalist's Work sold online and/or physically during the designated period of sales will be notified to the Artist and the Artist will be responsible for shipping the Work to the Client within 14 business days of notification, again the Client is to pay the freight.
  2. Work will be shipped unframed unless private arrangements are made between the Artist and their Buyer.

Insurance:

  1. Whilst all reasonable care will be exercised by the Organisers all entries are submitted at the total risk of the Artist. The Artist will by entering their Work into the Gallery 247 Art Show System, indemnify the Organisers against any claim, loss or damage of whatever nature or cause however occurring and whether directly or indirectly relating to entered works or their delivery.
  2. It is strongly recommended that each Artist has independent suitable insurance cover for the duration of the event.

Responsibilities:

  1. Artists accept responsibility for freight and other charges incurred in the delivery or return of an entry.
  2. Artist’s are responsible for keeping their mobile, email address, GST and EFT payment details up to date on the online system to ensure they receive updates before, during and after the Show, and the appropriate payment for sold artworks.

Prizes:

  1. The Australian Watercolour Muster is not a competition - the goal of the 'Muster' is to celebrate the best of Australian Art and build opportunities for our Australian Artists to mix it with the best of International Artists through our liaison and contact with Artists/Galleries and Materials Suppliers from the network formed across 80 countries - as part of FabrianoInAcquarello - Italy.
  2. This year we have invited some of our International Artist to be part of our Australian Watercolour Muster Biennale 2023 and these Artists will be here in Australia for you to meet and work with them in Workshops and Demonstrations >>> check out the full Program 

The Australian Watercolour Muster Curator and Team - work to release information and invitations annually to Australian Artists to be part of the FabrianoInAcquarello - Italy 'Call' for Artists and this year 2023 - we have 37 Artists selected to showcase their Work in Italy from the period 23 April 2023 to end of July 2023 >>>>

Publicity:

The Artist hereby authorises the Organisers to photograph, video and/or publish your work for the purposes of producing a catalogue or otherwise promoting the Show by any means.
